Is Birth Month Associated with Higher Allergy Risk?

Interesting article on BBC News: Winter Babies Are More Prone to Food Allergies. The gist of it:
Babies born in autumn or winter are more likely to develop a food allergy than those born in spring or summer, US researchers have found.

When was the mighty B born, you ask?

October (of course!). Blergh. But we live in California - and the October she was born was sunny and warm and gorgeous.

I never know what to make of these studies - and I always take them with a grain of salt. Or in the case, Vitamin D.

What month was your allergic child born?

My peanut allergic son was born in April so that doesn't seem to be true of us. In fact my September-born daughter is the one with no allergies.

My asthma/peanut allergy girl was born in December! But--my brother, who is allergic to everything from chicken to lima beans was born in August. My grandma who is allergic to lots of foods, including strawberries, was born in July. My father-in-law, who has TERRIBLE asthma was born in April. So--I tend to chalk it up to genetics--the asthma from my husband's family, the food allergies from my family.

My little one was born in January and has a peanut allergy & lots more! I do think respiratory wise... it made a huge difference with her being born during such a cold month and not being out as much!

My son is allergic to peanuts, some tree nuts, eggs and wheat, and he was born in October. He also seems to be irritated by every single baby lotion.

My peanut allergy boy is a twin, born in February. His fraternal twin brother has no food allergies. He also has 3 other brothers, all with no food allergies.
