The Melting Pot (of anaphylaxis)

Just in case you were thinking of going to The Melting Pot with your peanut allergic child (or friend or spouse or whatever) because it seemed safe enough.

Don't.

Guess what's an ingredient in the Original Chocolate Fondue (in my opinion the whole reason to go to a fondue place)?

Do I really need to tell you?

Check it out for yourself.

the original chocolate fondue, as you call it is actually ONE of 13 chocolate fondues the melting pot serves. in fact, the menu item you are refeerring to, is called
"the original", which is milk chocolate fondue and crunchy peanut butter added to it. you did not read the menu correctly or seek out additional inofrmation.
all of the melting pot chocolate fondues, either milk chocolate, dark chocolate or white chocolate are 100% nut free! try reading the menu before updating your blog. you may be deprying your child of something amazing and hurting the livelyhood of fondue people.

Actually if YOU knew anything about food allergies you would know that the fact that any peanut fondue is served makes the restaurant off limits because they use the same pots for all their fondues. So that amazing experience, could indeed KILL that child.

Live for fondue...

Get a clue! you clearly do not deal with a food allergy or just ignorant. Melting Pot is off limits unless you can prove to me that only 1 bowl and 1 bowl only is used for the peanuts

I'm shocked that someone so ignorant would post a comment on a blog titled Peanut Free Mama...

I also would like to state that those of us living peanut free can STILL enjoy fondue, just not at that particular restaurant!

Thank you SO much for your blog! I personally have learned a TON about living peanut free for my daughter's saftey from reading your posts!

"Hurting the livelyhood of fondue people"? Give me a break, Live for Fondue. I am sure the number of families not going to your restaurant is not going to make or break you.

In my previous comment I meant the number of families with nut/peanut allergies.

Who knew that Fondue was such a hot button issue? And who would think that peanut butter was added to chocolate fondue? Not me that's for sure. We can't do those types of places anyway because of the cheese and the bread they use (for everything - and I'm sure there are no "wheat free fork" Live for Fondue so don't even go there).

I have to say that I've been to a Fondue place one time (without children) and it really was yummy! If we could ever get milk back, I may buy a fondue pot and do it at home (without bread). The kids would love it.

I was not that impressed when we went to the Melting Pot. We went without our Allergy Boy, before we knew he was an Allergy Boy... Thank you for the update, you are so helpful to a mom like me. Thank you for all you do....

And I am appalled at the first commentor, we are dealing with children's lives here, that was just rude.

We are newly diagnosed peanut and tree nut. So everything is scary and I need to check into everything...
I don't know if some people who have that allergy have to separate their whole kitchen... But my son is fine as long as the utensils and plates he uses are clean.
I also read that the melting pot puts a note on the order about the allergy... They then sanitize their work station, change their gloves, and use seperate bowls and plates, then the manager will come out and check to make sure it's right and if there is any questions..... I'm not sure if every melting pot does this and we have not yet tested that... And if we ever decide to test that out, I will call first and ask if they do accommodate that and how.
I would think that if they advertise that, it would be a pretty big issue... Maybe even legal liability (I haven't researched that, I'm just guessing)... If they didn't take those precautions and someone had an allergic reaction!!
I'm not sure if I will ever risk my son's life from a statement that they guarantee allergy free, because accidents happen even when you do everything right.... Butt that is a me issue and not a restaurant issue.... And my point is... We should probably call ahead and ask questions to all individual places we are thinking about going so that we can make an informed decision on the risk factor....

Thank you for your blog, I need lots of information and have lots of questions and am very scared taking my son anywhere....I appreciate you taking the time to inform.
