Sunbutter: Drumroll please...

I posted about this over at my Facebook group, but I thought I'd give the rest of you a laugh.

I must really be doing my job and getting through to Bella.

I bought a jar of Sunbutter on Friday. After tasting it myself (and finding it oddly enjoyable after being a peanut free household for a few years now), I excitedly made a sandwich for Bella.

She regarded it with skepticism, took a bite, and immediately spit it out. That's my girl!

I've had it the past two days on an english muffin (which is almost like heaven for me - I miss PB on english muffins SO badly) and she's wanted nothing to do with and regards it with disgust.

I guess all the teaching I've been doing regarding what she can have with a peanut allergy has paid off. Now the question is, do I try to make recipes that use peanut butter and replace it with Sunbutter?

Oh, I have been thinking about trying pb cookies with sunbutter. I bought a new jar a couple of weeks ago. My kids like it but prefer pea butter (which sounds gross but it is waaay better than soy butter).

My son won't eat it on bread or crackers either. Actually I can't get him to eat a SANDWICH so I thought Sun butter would be my savior and he would eat Sun butter and jelly sandwiches (what kid wouldn't like that?). He will eat it in cookies though so that's a plus. And I can eat it safely on things like english muffins :)

Oh, I am sorry that sunbutter didn't work out for you. My peanut allergic 4 year old loves it! I mean, Sunbutter and Jelly sandwhiches is the only thing he wants for lunch now. He is a pretty picky eater so Sunbutter is a blessing for our family. (We tried peabutter, also. My 4 yr old was the only one that liked it; whereas, the whole family likes the sunbutter.)
I say go for trying out the recipes! I am planning on doing the same thing (I just haven't gotten to it yet).

I love sunbutter too and hope that I can get my son to eat it when he is older! Luckily my four year old (who doesn't have a peanut allergy) really likes it. In fact she prefers it to peanut butter and that makes my life easier...

Sunbutter is the best. We have replaced pb&j with sb&j. I just ordered their large bags of sunflower seeds too (call the corporate # cause it is not on their website) for making snack bags and to sprinkle in salad. I wish I could get my kids school to switch to it.

I am 27 years old and have been PA my whole life. I cannot *stand* the smell of peanut butter, and I find that products like sunbutter and soybutter smell just like it. I just can't do it - I've tried before but as soon as I get close the alarm bells go off in my head and I can't manage to get it into my mouth.

Good for Bella. You'll both be grateful for her peanut 'spidey sense' later on - it's amazing how fine-tuned the smell-o-meter gets. I can tell if there are nuts in something long before it gets near my mouth. Years of practice, I suppose!

Keep it up!
